The Last Days of Mankind

The Last Days of Mankind

I am getting to the end of ‘The Last Days of Mankind,’ the 500 page play by Karl Kraus. Appropriate reading. In anticipation of finishing it I have started on a thousand page Central European Novel by an author I have read what I can of in English. This is a pre-publication electronic version of a long awaited translation of the other of his two great novels. Well, long awaited by me and one other person anyway. The publisher seems to be ‘comme ci comme ca’ about it, but that’s the thing with publishers isn’t it? - there’s always the feeling they are doing you a favour. My own publishing organisation iD Media misses out on the indifference and the middleman. I find iD Media are always enthusiastic about whatever I give them. In fact my advice in these times of isolation is to build a boat or write a novel. I’m writing a novel (number 5) and revising another one (number 4). On a smaller canvas, and as a change of pace I’m translating some of my quick fire comedy texts into an eccentric Catalan. These will then be knocked into proper Catalan shape later by Martí ‘Brian’ Blesa. Just so you know.
