The last days of The Weimar Republic and the first days of The Third Reich have their effect on the staff of a German Consulate in a Northern English Industrial city. International events are all in flux but personal involvements remain much the same. Various emotional circles need to be squared and most people find they will resort to anything if they have to. Though people try not to change when they do the effects can be felt, from Siberia in the East to North America in the West. Only one person, with a one way ticket to Hitler’s Reich Chancellery in Berlin chooses to go back to Germany.
